Transform The Hospital Group are the UK’s leading provider of surgical, non-surgical and weight loss procedures with 3 hospitals and 22 clinics UK wide.

The Challenge

With no group procurement function and local non-procurement stakeholders making buying decisions, executives recognised the opportunity to target immediate profitability improvement, consolidation and compliance.

Approach

In the first phase, the Procura team undertook a Spend Analysis and Opportunity Assessment across all the business units.  ProIntell was used to visualise and analyse all non-pay spend and provide the TTHG exec with full spend visibility.

The Opportunity Assessment identified more than half a million in savings across all categories of spend; directs (including clinical) and indirects.

The second phase was a six month programme of procurement cost reduction focused on 14 workstreams including; Medical implants and fittings, Healthcare Services, Consumables, Medical Equipment, Pharmacy, IT, Telecoms, Marketing, Soft FM, Workwear/Laundry.

The project over-delivered against the savings target, as well as putting in place key foundations for improved procurement for the future, and was selected as a Finalist for the MCA Commercial Excellence Award.

Results

  • First time TTHG exec had full spend visibility across all sites
  • Audit of contracts realised supplier credits for overcharges and price variances for same products across sites
  • Consolidation of suppliers – ‘Consumables’ from 20+ down to 2
  • Contracts database for full ongoing visibility and planning
  • Category workgroups created with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders – to be continued after the project for continuous improvement
  • £700k savings delivered
  • Finalist for Commercial Excellence in the MCA Awards 2020
