Implementing Digital Procurement across a European manufacturer; understanding the art of the possible and defining the digitisation roadmap.

 

Client

The European division of a global industrial and services group. With a recently formed group procurement capability, the organisation had a clear objective to leverage technology to build digital procurement on top of the legacy ERP systems functioning at individual sites.

The Challenge

With procurement teams based at individual sites and each manufacturing site using different ERP systems the challenge for the client was to deliver a step-change improvement in procurement impact by leveraging technology.

Recognising that sites would need to continue to use their site-specific ERP systems and core technology, the objective was to define the optimum technology solution which could be standardised for group procurement.

Approach

At the outset, the client wanted to understand the art of the possible. Starting with a Current State Analysis, the Procura team were able to rapidly establish the starting point; in terms of systems, processes, people and technology.

Using our understanding of the technology provider marketplace, a future vision and roadmap were developed, combined with a digital procurement business case for executive approval. With a complex current situation and multiple processes requiring improvement, it was vital to develop a holistic view, ensuring integration, compatibility and cost-effectiveness.

Following approval, the team structured and managed a solution provider selection process through a RFI long-list to RFP short-list, demonstrations and selection process.

With a number of core procurement processes to put in place, Contract Management was prioritised with the selection of a Contract Database and Contract Lifecycle management solution for pilot implementation.
